Careers at Luther Consulting

Instructional Designer

We are currently soliciting resumes from qualified applicants for a full-time position in Instructional Design to provide training materials for our Aphirm® and EvaluationWeb® Software as a Service (SaaS) products, which focus on data collection, data display, visualization, and reporting of public health data to the federal government and other funding agencies. Our customers vary from small community organizations to researchers at The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta.

Since most of our work centers around data collection technology for tracking the prevention of HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and diseases contracted through injection drug use, the ability to discuss such topics with co-workers and clients is required. Also, our clients represent many communities and include LGBTQ+ individuals, HIV-positive individuals, and former users of illicit substances, with educational backgrounds ranging from minimal schooling to medical practitioners and doctoral-level research scientists. Therefore, the ability to communicate with a diverse set of people is a must.

We are looking for an individual with a mix of skills and knowledge, particularly related to training and instruction, writing, documentation, and critical thinking.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in any area providing a strong grounding in writing.
  • Three years’ experience or certification/degree in Instructional Design.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • A high level of self-motivation.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to successfully manage multiple activities at once.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and internet browsers.
  • The ability to communicate within a diverse community of public health professionals about STIs, sexual risk behaviors, illicit drug use, and related concepts.

Desired Skills

  • Experience creating computer-based training courses, including storyboarding.
  • Experience using e-learning development software, particularly Articulate Storyline/Rise and Adobe Captivate.
  • Experience with screen reading software, particularly Freedom Scientific JAWS.
  • Experience in public health or social services, especially in HIV/STI prevention.
  • Experience in technical writing or documentation.
  • Experience with designing instructional materials for adult learners.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain computer-based training (CBT) modules and other materials for training of employees at state and local health departments and community-based health organizations.
  • Create and maintain CBT modules and other materials for internal training on topics such as data security and new employee onboarding.
  • Collaborate to identify needs for new training materials and to prioritize their development.
  • Research subject matter upon which new courses are based.
  • Update and maintain portfolio of existing training documents.
  • Provide feedback and input on training materials created by team members.
  • Deliver in-person or webinar-based training in conjunction with the Technical Support team when need arises.
